If you don’t already have a few clear close-up photos that you feel show the qualities you want to see in the portrait, here are some photo tips to help you take the kind of photos needed for a portrait:
1. Photograph your dog in a favorite spot and give reassuring and familiar praises, so he or she will be relaxed and content while you take the photos.
2. Take photos inside near a window or outside on a cloudy day – this will usually provide pleasing natural light.
3. Take enough photos to capture poses and expressions that are most typical for your dog.
4. Situate yourself and your dog at the same level, and make sure that a couple photos show his or her eyes clearly.
5. Try photographing from an angle (from the side, not above or below). This will help capture a variety of expressions and any special markings.
